Pikaki Taberna Portuguesa
About This Spot
Stepping into Pikaki Taberna Portuguesa feels like crossing a quiet threshold into a cherished local hideaway just on the outskirts of Lisbon. Nestled in Almada, this cozy restaurant hums with the gentle rhythm of genuine connection—an unpretentious place where the pace slows down enough for both locals and travelers to unwind and savor the moment.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, touched by the familiarity of a family-run spot where names, faces, and stories are shared across tables. There’s an unspoken comfort here, a feeling that you’ve stumbled upon something meaningful rather than just another stop on a culinary map. The earthy clink of glasses mingles with easy conversation, while the friendly attentiveness keeps everything feeling relaxed yet thoughtfully attended to.
Food at Pikaki is an unfolding discovery, where the sea’s gifts and Portugal’s vibrant traditions come alive in unexpected ways. The kitchen speaks a language of sincere passion—dishes arrive that melt the boundaries between familiar and adventurous, seasoned simply but with a delicacy that sings. Whether it’s tender octopus, fresh cuttlefish gently wrapped in seaweed, or playful reinterpretations of classic codfish, each bite invites you into a story of place and craft.
Expect to find yourself lingering over plates, the meal weaving effortlessly between shared moments and quiet enjoyment. Freshness and boldness are never forced, but present in every savory nuance—from smoky, lightly fried greens to spirited prawns carried in rich beer sauces. The integration of tradition with personal touch feels like an ongoing conversation between kitchen and table.
Pikaki’s charm is enhanced by the heartfelt hospitality behind its counter. The kind of warmth that feels like visiting friends who happen to serve some of the region’s most memorable flavors. It’s a spot where language barriers gently melt away, replaced by shared enthusiasm for simple, honest food and genuine connection.
If your travels bring you across the Tagus River, Pikaki Taberna Portuguesa is more than a meal—it’s a quiet celebration of local life, where the pace slows, the tastes linger, and the people leave as much of a lasting impression as the flavors.

We were full after third dish but had to order two more and a dessert because everything was simply so delicious. The best dinner of our trip to Portugal. The fish dishes were the standout but we couldn’t fault a thing. We cannot recommend enough that you travel over the river to here and enjoy a wonderful meal for a beyond reasonable price.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and its memorable taste when we came across this little gem by surprise. Very friendly and efficient service, available in English and Portuguese. Their beer tap was apparently broken though, but they still had bottled beers. We started with the shrimp in the beer sauce and were blown away by how delicious it was. Order with bread! The beef sandwich and the raw cod were ok, but the other stuff we had including the octopus, duck croquettes, and squid tacos were very tasty. Located very close to the very, tram, bus station. Vegetarian options available. Kid friendly. Handicap accessible.

A tapas experience that has bested all we’ve tried anywhere else in Portugal. The cuttlefish was delicate and the polvo unbelievably good. Raphael was a delightful waiter and eased us poor non-native speakers through the whole experience. Highly recommend!

This amazing dining establishment is across the bridge and we almost did not make it because it was not central to where we were but I am so glad we didn't miss out on this reservation. We actually wish we got to spend more time here because it wasn't as touristy and seemed to be a spot where locals hang out. You know you are in the right spot when the owner, Daniel greets frequent customers. Standout dishes we had: Peixie Branco Alimando, Croquetes Rabo Boi, Bonchechas de porco, Camarao c/ molho cerveja e manteiga, and finished with Ovos Rotos-- pretty much the whole menu. The one dish I wish I also got to try is the Cod on toasted bread. I love a family run business and Taberna Pikaki did not disappoint one bit. Would highly recommend to foodies.

Amazing food and very friendly and helpful staff. A mix of genuine and delicate flavors of portoguese cuisine and some dishes with a modern twist. Highly recommend!

The food is excellent, and the service is just as much. Raphael and Daniel went above and beyond for us until the end. The pork cheek is absolutaly melting in your mouth. The portugese salad is a must! They treat you like family. We had a great time, thank you so much. From your friends from Montreal and with love, Elie, Sab, Frank and Will xx

The food at Pikaki was absolutely outstanding. The dishes looked so good I forgot to take a picture and tasted even better! The two taverna dishes (whitefish with lime and almonds and the cuttlefish tacos) were honestly amazing! Danny and Rafael made me feel welcome and I will definetely be back when in Lisbon.
